Trocadero and Champ de Mars are always overrun with tourists. Where can we enjoy a quiet evening sunset view of the Eiffel Tower with a bottle of French wine?

Head down to Port de Debilly (the riverbank walking paths right below Pont d'Iéna). Alternatively, the rooftop deck at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann is free to enter and offers a breathtaking panoramic sunset skyline! https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1502602898657-3e91760cbb34?w=800

Square Rapp in the 7th arrondissement gives an incredible framed photo view between ornate Parisian buildings!

Skip Trocadéro entirely—it's a zoo these days! My go-to spot for the past three years has been the Passerelle Debilly, a footbridge just east of the Eiffel Tower. Even better, take the steps right below it down to Port Debilly along the Seine. It's significantly quieter, and you get an incredible view right from the water's edge. Before heading down, pop into a wine shop around Métro Alma-Marceau (or just a local Monoprix) to grab a decent bottle of Côtes du Rhône for around €8–€12, a fresh baguette, and some cheese. You can sit right on the cobblestones by the river and watch the sunset and the hourly sparkle without hundreds of selfie sticks in your face. If you want an alternative, try the tip of Île aux Cygnes near Pont de Bir-Hakeim. Walk down the tree-lined path towards the replica Statue of Liberty; there are plenty of quiet benches facing the tower with almost no crowds.

I keep reading about pickpockets on Metro Line 1 and around Sacré-Cœur. What practical safety precautions should we take during our stay?

Never keep your phone or wallet in your back pocket. Wear a cross-body bag zipped in front of you. Ignore anyone handing you petitions, friendship bracelets, or asking if you dropped a ring!

I'm moving to Paris next month for a tech job in the 9th arrondissement, and I am looking for safe, affordable areas to rent a studio. Ideally, I'd like to keep my rent under €1,300 while having access to good Metro lines and local markets. Any recommendations or specific neighborhoods I should avoid during my housing search?

Welcome to Paris! Finding a good balance between affordability, vibrancy, and commute times as a young professional is definitely doable if you look in the right spots. Here are some of the best long-term neighborhood recommendations: 1. **19th & 20th Arrondissements (Belleville, Jourdain, Canal de l'Ourcq):** These areas are very popular with young creatives and expats. They offer a lively street culture, great bars/cafes, lovely green spaces like Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, and significantly lower rent than central or western Paris. 2. **12th Arrondissement (Nation, Reuilly-Diderot, Picpus):** A slightly quieter, safer, and very practical choice. It's extremely well-connected by transport (Lines 1, 6, 8, and 14) and close to the Bois de Vincennes. Rents are reasonable for inner-city standards. 3. **18th Arrondissement (Jules Joffrin / Eastern slopes of Montmartre):** Avoid touristy Montmartre proper, but the surrounding residential pockets have a great neighborhood feel, bustling local markets, and affordable studio/one-bedroom flats. 4. **Inner Suburbs (Petite Couronne) - Montreuil & Pantin:** If you want more square footage for your money, look just outside the Périphérique ring road. Montreuil (often called the 'Brooklyn of Paris') and Pantin are on main Metro lines (Lines 1, 5, 9), making commuting into central Paris quick and easy. **Pro-tip:** Rental demand is intense in Paris. Make sure to have your full renter's dossier (proof of income, ID, guarantor info) completely organized before you start booking viewings!
